Overview

Recently, NSFOCUS CERT detected that Apache officially issued a security notice, fixing an Apache Dubbo deserialization vulnerability (CVE-2023-23638). Due to the flaws in Apache Dubbo’s deserialization security check, remote attackers can construct malicious data packets to conduct deserialization attacks, and finally execute arbitrary code on the target system. Affected users are requested to take protective measures as soon as possible.

Scope of Impact

Affected version

  • Apache Dubbo 2.7.x <= 2.7.21
  • Apache Dubbo 3.0.x <= 3.0.13
  • Apache Dubbo 3.1.x <= 3.1.5

Unaffected version

  • Apache Dubbo >= 2.7.22
  • Apache Dubbo >= 3.0.14
  • Apache Dubbo >= 3.1.6

Detection

1. Relevant users can view the current Dubbo version number on Dubbo’s web log interface, the path is /log.html or /sysinfo/logs

2. Users can also view the currently used Dubbo version number in the pom.xml file of the project.

If the version is within the affected range, there may be a security risk.

Mitigation

Official upgrade

At present, the official has released a repair version for this vulnerability. It is recommended that affected users update to the latest version in time. The download link is: https://github.com/apache/dubbo/releases

Other measures

Close the Dubbo server port open to the public network, and only allow trusted IP access.
