Overview
Recently, a new strain of ransomware WannaRen came to the surface and began to spread between PCs. This ransomware encrypts almost all files in the Windows system and uses .WannaRen as the extension of encrypted files. The attacker leaves a Bitcoin wallet address and demands 0.05 Bitcoin as ransom.
A preliminary analysis reveals that this ransomware would check the operating environment in advance, and will not run or encrypt files if it is in a virtual machine. Currently, it affects Windows 7 and Windows 10.

According to information on hand, Windows 7 and Windows 10 are vulnerable to this ransomware currently.
Solution
NSFOCUS recommends that users should not download or open files from suspicious sources, and should back up critical data in the system as soon as possible to mitigate the potential impact of this ransomware.
