Overview
Recently, NSFOCUS CERT monitored that Apache released a security bulletin, fixing the Apache Struts arbitrary file upload vulnerability S2-067 (CVE-2024-53677). Due to a logical defect in the file upload function, an unauthenticated attacker can perform path traversal by controlling the file upload parameters, thereby uploading malicious files to achieve remote code execution. The CVSS score is 9.5. Relevant users are requested to take measures for protection as soon as possible.

- 2.5.0 <= Apache Struts <= 2.5.33
- 6.0.0 <= Apache Struts <= 6.3.0.2
Note: Applications that do not enable the FileUploadInterceptor component are not affected by this vulnerability.

Detection
Manual detection
For projects packaged with maven, the current used Struts2 version can be viewed through pom.xml:
The Struts version can also be viewed by checking the core package in the lib directory. If the current version is within the affected range, there may be a security risk.
Mitigation
The official has released a new version to fix this vulnerability. Affected users are requested to upgrade the version for protection as soon as possible. Download link: https://struts.apache.org/download.cgi
Note: Starting from Struts 6.4.0, users need to use ActionFileUploadInterceptor as the file upload component.
