Overview
Recently, NSFOCUS CERT detected that VMware issued a security announcement and fixed multiple high-risk vulnerabilities (CVE-2025-22224/CVE-2025-22225/CVE-2025-22226) in VMware ESXi&Workstation&Fusion. At present, all the 3 vulnerabilities have been found to be exploited in the wild. Please take protective measures as soon as possible.
CVE-2025-22224: There is a TOCTOU (CheckTime-of-use) write vulnerability in VMware ESXi and Workstation. An attacker with virtual machine management permissions can execute arbitrary code through the VMX process running on the host. CVSS score was 9.3.
CVE-2025-22225: There is an arbitrary write vulnerability in VMware ESXi. Attackers with VMX process privileges can implement sandbox escape by triggering any kernel write. CVSS score is 8.2.
CVE-2025-22226: There is an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the HGFS, and attackers with virtual machine management permission can obtain memory information through the VMX process. CVSS score is 7.1.
