Overview
Recently, NSFOCUS CERT detected a vulnerability in Grafana’s authentication bypass (CVE-2023-3128). Azure AD can support multiple users with the same email address. When configuring Azure AD to support multiple users, unauthenticated attackers can exploit this vulnerability by creating malicious email account requests. Due to Grafana’s failure to uniquely authenticate Azure AD email accounts based on email addresses, attackers can bypass authentication and take over the target user’s Grafana account, Attackers who control user accounts can access sensitive data information. The CVSS score is 9.4, affected users should take measures as soon as possible.

Official upgrade
Currently, the official security version has been released to fix this vulnerability. It is recommended that affected users upgrade their protection as soon as possible: https://grafana.com/grafana/download
Mitigation measures
- Allow_ Add groups configuration to Azure AD configuration to ensure that attackers cannot use arbitrary emails.
- Register a single tenant application in Azure AD to prevent any login attempts from external tenants.
