Recently, NSFOCUS CERT found a remote code execution vulnerability in Apache ActiveMQ Jolokia (CVE-2022-41678). In the configuration of ActiveMQ, jetty allows org.holokia.http.AgentServlet to process requests for/api/Jolokia. An authenticated attacker can send a specially crafted HTTP request to write a malicious file through the Jolokia service, thus implementing remote code execution. At present, the vulnerability PoC has been made public. Please take measures to protect the affected users as soon as possible.
Scope of Impact
- 5.16.0<=Apache ActiveMQ<5.16.6
- 5.17.0<=Apache ActiveMQ<5.17.4
- Apache ActiveMQ>=5.16.6
- Apache ActiveMQ>=5.17.4
- Apache ActiveMQ>=5.18.0
- Apache ActiveMQ>=6.0.0
At present, the vulnerability has been fixed in the new version officially released by Apache ActiveMQ. It is recommended that affected users upgrade to the latest version for protection: https://github.com/apache/activemq/tags
Temporary mitigation measure
1. It is recommended to enable web console authentication (default port 8161) and not open to the public network unless necessary. Please refer to the official documentation https://activemq.apache.org/web-console , and set a robust password.
2. On the premise of not affecting business, access restrictions can be imposed on the Jolokia interface. If the Jolokia service is not needed, it can be directly disabled; Please refer to the operations after restricting Jolokia’s authorization https://github.com/apache/activemq/pull/958/files
