QNAP QTS and QuTS hero SQL Injection Vulnerability (CVE-2022-27596) Notice

Overview

On January 31, 2023, NSFOCUS CERT detected that QNAP officially released a QNAP QTS and QuTS hero SQL injection vulnerability (CVE-2022-27596) notice. Due to the flaws in QNAP QTS and QuTS hero, unauthenticated remote attackers can use this vulnerability to inject malicious code on QNAP NAS devices, and ultimately achieve arbitrary code execution. The CVSS score is 9.8. Affected users are requested to take protective measures as soon as possible.

  • QNAP QuTS hero = h5.0.1

Unaffected version

  • QNAP QTS >= 5.0.1.2234 build 20221201
  • QNAP QuTS hero >= h5.0.1.2248 build 20221215

Mitigation

1. At present, the official security version has been released to fix this vulnerability. It is recommended that affected users upgrade their protection in time:

2. The QTS or QuTS hero update steps are as follows:

  • Log in to QTS or QuTS hero as an administrator
  • Go to: Control Panel > System > Firmware Update
  • Under Live Updates, click Check for Updates
  • QTS or QuTS hero download and install the latest available version
