Overview

On November 7, 2018, local time, Cisco released a security advisory to announce the remediation of two critical vulnerabilities in the Stealthwatch Management Console (SMC) and the Utility Express respectively.

Stealthwatch Management Console Authentication Bypass

This vulnerability is due to an insecure system configuration. An unauthorized remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to bypass authentication and execute code with administrative privileges on an affected system.

Cisco Stealthwatch Enterprise releases 6.10.3

Solution

Cisco Unity Express Arbitrary Command Execution

This vulnerability is due to insufficient sanitization of user-supplied content before such content is deserialized. An attacker could trigger this vulnerability by sending a malicious serialized Java object to the listening Java Remote Method Invocation (RMI) service of an affected system, hence execution of arbitrary shell commands with root privileges.
