Recently, Apache released a security advisory to announce the fix of a remote code execution vulnerability (CVE-2020-1956) in Apache Kylin. Apache Kylin has some RESTful APIs that will associate OS commands with user-typed strings. As Apache Kylin fails to properly verify user inputs, an attacker could execute arbitrary system commands without authorization. Currently, the PoC of this vulnerability has been made publicly available. Users of this software are advised to take protective measures as soon as possible.
Apache Kylin is an open-source distributed Analytical Data Warehouse from Apache Software Foundation (ASF). It is designed to provide SQL interface and multi-dimensional analysis (OLAP) on Hadoop/Spark to support extremely large datasets.
Scope of Impact
- Kylin 2.3.0 – 2.3.2
- Kylin 2.4.0 – 2.4.1
- Kylin 2.5.0 – 2.5.2
- Kylin 2.6.0 – 2.6.5
- Kylin 3.0.0-alpha
- Kylin 3.0.0-alpha2
- Kylin 3.0.0-beta
- Kylin 3.0.0 – 3.0.1
- Kylin = 2.6.6
- Kylin = 3.0.2
- Official Fix
Currently, this vulnerability has been fixed in two latest versions, V2.6.6 and V3.0.2. Affected users are advised to upgrade Apache Kylin as soon as possible to protect against this vulnerability by downloading updates from the following link:
- Other Protection Measures
If users cannot upgrade Apache Kylin for the time being, they can apply the following workaround:
